Flirting at the casino

Microsoft and Harrah’s Entertainment recently introduced a high-tech interactive bar table that lets patrons order drinks, watch YouTube videos, play touch-screen games and even flirt with other patrons.

The tables’ offer Harrah’s a new way to track its customers’ habits and behaviours, adding to its sophisticated costumer rewards program that tracks users’ gambling habits.

The six rectangular tables with built-in 30-inch flat screens using Microsoft Surface technology were installed in a lounge at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, with custom applications built for Harrah’s.

One such application is a program called Flirt, which lets customers sitting at any such table in the lounge see, and chat with each other, take and e-mail pictures and even trade cell phone numbers.

Another programs let users play video games or get information about restaurants, shows, nightclubs and other Harrah’s attractions.

The table’s computer uses a camera behind the screen to detect hand movements, which become visible to the camera like silhouettes once a user presses their fingers on the table. That lets the table display high resolution images but still function as a table. And unlike a typical computer monitor, you can set drinks on it.

Lakes Entertainment recently announced that the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger have signed an amended compact which paves the way for Class III gaming to be offered at the future Red Hawk Casino located in Shingle Springs, California. The casino is currently under construction and will be managed by Lakes Entertainment.

The new compact runs through 2029 and allows for a maximum of 5,000 Class III slot machines at one gaming facility. In addition, the Shingle Springs Tribe will share revenues with the state based on a sliding scale percentage of net win – ranging from 20 to 25 % from the operation of the slot machines. The Tribe will also contribute $4.6 million per year to the Revenue Sharing Trust Fund, which pays up to $1.1 million each year to non-gaming tribes in California.

If the Red Hawk Casino gets all final approvals, the plans are to feature approximately 2,000 Class III slot machines, 75 table games, a high stakes gaming room, as well as 10 food and beverage outlets, enclosed parking and other facilities. The Tribe estimates that the casino will generate approximately 2,000 jobs.
